To Be a King [18+] Mod Description

As a newly appointed royal minister, brought in after the previous minister was deposed, you take your position during a time of uncertainty. You’ve been loyal to the king ever since you two rose up the military ranks together. After the previous king died under mysterious circumstances, the current king took his position. You were sent to reinforce the eastern part of the kingdom, and your victories earned new territory and riches for your king, your soldiers, and yourself.

 

Three recent assassination attempts, mercifully failed ones, have left the entire kingdom on edge. Are you entering a greater position of power during a time when your role can be solidified? Or will you be swiftly removed as the kingdom continues to unravel? Throughout your time, you’ll learn more about who really controls power in the kingdom, uncover plots against the kingdom, and have the possibility of romance (but you’ll have to tread carefully as each romance can put you at risk). Your choices will determine not only your future but that of the kingdom.

 

Note: To Be A King is an adult visual novel available on PC, Mac, Android, and Linux. This genre is an interactive fiction video game where you make important choices to the plot (much like a choose your own adventure). The story is told through static images and text on screen, with light use of sound effects and music.

About Development

Over two years old now, my adult visual novel, To Be A King, continues to receive regular updates roughly two to three times a year. Each new release, which I call chapters, should give you over an hour on a single playthrough. As of Chapter 7, you should have several hours of playtime.

I give regular updates on development, and even have a progress tracker you can follow. Developing a visual novel is not a cheap hobby. Besides the hundreds of hours I spend on each release, there are costs for the powerful computer systems I need to render out the images you see in the game, my software costs for the software to create and polish each release, and my costs for the assets (models, environments, music, & props) that go into each release. Your regular support here, even if it is just $3/month, helps ensure that I can offset some of these costs and, hopefully, turn this into a full-time career.
